About the Supervisor

Felicia Carroll, LMFT, RPT-S, has been supervising interns and clinicians for over ten years. She has completed training programs in Gestalt therapy through the Gestalt Institute of Los Angeles as well as The Violet Oaklander Institute. She is a founding member and former Board member of the Violet Solomon Oaklander Foundation. She teaches at Gestalt Institutes in Europe in addition to offering training programs and university classes in the US. Felicia is published on topics related to Gestalt psychotherapy with children. Felicia recognizes that supervision needs to be a collaborative and mutually enhancing experience. Therefore, each supervisee establishes purposes and goals for her clinical development, which become the focus of supervisory discussion and self-evaluation.

About Gestalt Play Therapy

A background in Gestalt Therapy is not essential for effective supervision. However, this supervision can provide an opportunity to develop a foundation in Gestalt theoretical and conceptual principles and methods for clinical practice. This perspective emphasizes the view of the relational self and the qualities of the therapeutic alliance. Gestalt Play Therapy offers the child therapist an alternative way of working directly in relationship with her clients. This holistic therapy continues to influence the theory and practice of most contemporary schools in psychotherapy as well as challenge the assumptions of others. The fundamental principles of Gestalt Therapy are enhanced by the recent work in attachment theory, relational psychotherapy and neuroscience. The integration of Gestalt Therapy with these recent developments will shape the perspective of the supervisory discussion. Supervisees are asked to read, Windows to Our Children and Hidden Treasure, by Violet Oaklander.

Felicia conducts supervision in groups, individually, and at a distance via telephone. Phone supervision is available to those who have completed training in Gestalt Play Therapy with Felicia Carroll or Violet Oaklander. Groups are scheduled for Tuesday and Friday mornings in Solvang, CA. Individuals can schedule appointments.
